'Cane Kickoff: Fall Orientation

Welcome to the University of Miami! We are very excited to see you for 'Cane Kickoff. Don’t forget to register for 'Cane Kickoff through your Canelink account!


Fall 2019 Schedule

  • Incoming undergraduate first-year and transfer students: August 12-18
    • If you will be living on campus, you will check in for ‘Cane Kickoff on August 12 or 13 according to your assigned day and time by following the steps mailed to your permanent address in the summer. Specifics can also be found at miami.edu/housing.
    • If you will be commuting, you may check in for ‘Cane Kickoff between August 12-14 during the general times listed on the schedule.
    • The full ‘Cane Kickoff program for all first-year residential and commuter students will then occur from August 14-18. A more detailed schedule of the week can be viewed below.
  • Families of undergraduate first-year and transfer students: August 12-14
    • Optional offerings on day of your student’s designated Housing Move-In
    • Formal program for all families of all residential and commuter students on Wednesday, August 14 from 8:30am-7:00pm.

Pre-Orientation Programs

  • Great Start

    Sponsored by the Department of Orientation & Commuter Student Involvement, Great Start is a student-led, overnight pre-orientation program designed to facilitate a successful transition to college for new first-year students who will be commuting to campus from home in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

  • International Student Orientation

    MANDATORY PRE-ORIENTATION SESSION FOR ALL FRESHMEN AND TRANSFER INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

    International Student Orientation is a pre-orientation program sponsored by International Student & Scholar Services for new and transfer University of Miami international students. ISO complements 'Cane Kickoff: Fall Orientation program for undergraduate students by providing international students with information and experiences that will assist in their transition to living and studying in the U.S.

  • Exchange Students

    This session is designed for incoming students on a university-sponsored exchange to Miami. The Study Abroad Office will be presenting on processes, services, and opportunities specifically for exchange students.

  • Horizons

    Horizons is a pre-orientation program designed to assist new African, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American students in their transition to the University of Miami.  It is sponsored by the Department of Multicultural Student Affairs.
