'Cane Kickoff: Fall Orientation

Fall 2023 Schedule

  • Incoming international undergraduate first-year and transfer students: Monday, August 14 through Sunday, August 20.
    • New International Students and Incoming Exchange Students living on campus will  move in on  Monday.
  • Incoming domestic undergraduate first-year and transfer students: Monday, August 14 through Sunday, August 20.
    • Domestic Students living on campus will move in during their assigned day and time slot on either Monday or Tuesday.
    • If you will be commuting or living off-campus, you may check in for ‘Cane Kickoff Wednesday morning
  • Family ’Cane Kickoff (for families of new undergraduate first-year and transfer students): Monday, August 14 through Wednesday, August 16.
    • Select offerings on day of student’s designated housing move-in.
    • Full-day program for families of all residential and commuter students held on Wednesday until 6:30pm.

The Fall 2023 ’Cane Kickoff schedule will be available in early August via the UMiami app . The app, which is free to download from both the App Store and Google Play, lists the up-to-date schedule of events and other helpful resources available during the week. Once in the app, tap the person icon in the top right corner, tap My Location, Coral Gables Campus, and select ’Cane Kickoff Orientation. No log-in or account creation is needed.

  • Great Start

    Sponsored by the Department of Orientation & Commuter Student Involvement, Great Start is an weekend-long pre-orientation program designed to create a college adjustment and campus involvement experience for new students who will be living off campus in their first year at the University of Miami.

  • Outdoor Adventure First-Year Trips

    Outdoor Adventures First-Year Trips are peer-led, adventure-based experiences that prepare students for life at UM. Trips offer participants diverse opportunities to meet other first-year students, learn about themselves and connect with UM. First-Year Trips are four (4) day wilderness adventures in groups of 10 participants led by upper-class student trip leaders from Outdoor Adventures. Pre-Orientation Trips are designed for beginners, no experience is necessary.

  • International Student Orientation

    International Student Orientation is a pre-orientation program designed to assist new international students in their transition to the University of Miami.  It is sponsored by the Department of International Student and Scholar Services.

  • Exchange Students

    This session is designed for incoming students on a university-sponsored exchange to Miami. The Study Abroad Office will be presenting on processes, services, and opportunities specifically for exchange students.   

  • Horizons

    Horizons is a pre-orientation program designed to assist new Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian students in their transition to the University of Miami. It is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs
