Fall 2019 Schedule

  • Incoming undergraduate first-year and transfer students: August 14-18
  • Families of undergraduate first-year and transfer students: August 14-15

Students living in on-campus housing should visit Housing & Residential Life's website for specific information regarding when they are assigned to move in to their room.


Pre-Orientation Programs

New students beginning in the Fall semester have the opportunity to participate in four optional programs prior to ’Cane Kickoff. 

Great Start

Sponsored by the Department of Orientation & Commuter Student Involvement, Great Start is a student-led, overnight pre-orientation program designed to facilitate a successful transition to college for new first-year students who will be commuting to campus from home in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. 

International Student Orientation

Incoming first-year and transfer International Students are asked to participate in International Student Orientation (ISO) sponsored by the Department of International Student and Scholar Services for new University of Miami international first-year and transfer students.

  • Study Abroad students should attend the Study Abroad Office’s Exchange Student Orientation.  For dates, time, and location, contact the Study Abroad Office at studyabroad@miami.edu or visit their website at miami.edu/studyabroad.  
  • Family members who plan to accompany their undergraduate student to the U.S. should attend the Family Orientation Program.  For Family Orientation check-in dates, time, and location, contact the Department of Orientation at orientation@miami.eduor visit their website at miami.edu/orientation.

Horizons

Horizons is a pre-orientation program designed to assist new African, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American students in their transition to the University of Miami.  It is sponsored by the Department of Multicultural Student Affairs

FreshFest

UM Hillel sponsors FreshFest, a pre-orientation program designed to introduce new incoming first-year Jewish students to Miami, Hillel, and the Jewish community in South Florida.


Arrival to Campus

As you arrive on campus for orientation, please make sure that you:

  1. Check in for ’Cane Kickoff at the Shalala Student Center.
  2. Check in to your Residential College if you are living on campus.
  3. Pick up your ’Cane Card (University ID).
  4. Review all to-do items in Canelink and the Road to UM.
